Top 9 Things to Do in Arroyo Grande

The Central Coast Team | October 3, 2023 @ 12:00 AM

The California central coast region is a beautiful place to live with a moderate climate and many wooded areas. It’s a lovely place to live or run a business, and we’re happy to have Central Coast Self Storage based here, in Arroyo Grande. This may be a small city with about 18,000 residents. However, despite its size, Arroyo Grande is home to plenty of things to see and do. Here are our ten favorites.

  • Visit the Heritage House

Victorian architecture is some of the most elegant in the world, and that’s one reason we love the historic Heritage House. This renovated Victorian-era mansion is now a beautiful museum that can take you back to the late 19th century. It's a great place to learn about the Arroyo Grande’'s history and architecture.

  • Explore the Village

The Village of Arroyo Grande is a charming downtown area. Check out the historic architecture, the antique stores, art galleries, clothing boutiques, and gift shops, then enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants. In December, there’s even a Christmas parade bringing locals together.

  • Go Wine Tasting

The nearby Edna Valley is home to many excellent wineries including Kynsi Winery, Autry Cellars, and Chamisal Vineyards. Take a wine tasting tour and enjoy the beautiful scenery while sipping on some of the region's best wines.

  • Hike or Bike the Bob Jones Trail

The Bob Jones Trail runs along San Luis Obispo Creek and is a great place to get some exercise and enjoy the outdoors. It runs from Arroyo Grande to the ocean and is a wonderful path for a walk, jog, or bike ride.

  • Visit the Swinging Bridge

The Swinging Bridge, a pedestrian bridge that spans across Arroyo Grande Creek, is a lovely spot for photos and a fun place to visit with kids. It was originally constructed by the Short family in 1875. Spanning 171 feet, it’s suspended 40 feet above the creek.

  • Go Beachcombing

Nearby Pismo Beach and Grover Beach offer miles of sandy beaches to explore. Collect shells, watch the sunset, head over to the Pismo Beach Pier, or even go kayaking in the area.

  • Visit the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes

If you love the outdoors, we encourage you to visit the towering sand dunes at Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes. Take a hike or go horseback riding through the dunes and enjoy the stunning views that stretch to the horizon.

  • Go Antique Shopping

Arroyo Grande is home to many exciting antique shops like Village Vintage, A Glance Into the Past Antiques, and Posies in the Village. These are all fun places to spend an afternoon searching for unique treasures.

  • Attend a Local Event

We already mentioned the Arroyo Grande Christmas Parade, but that’s far from the only festival in this small city. We also host a Harvest Festival, an Easter Egg Hunt, Mother’s Day Tea Party, and more. Check the local calendar to see what's happening during your visit.

Whether you’re a local or visiting, you’ll find plenty to do year-round in Arroyo Grande. And, if you are a local and need a place to store your extra belongings, including off-season clothes, business inventory, and more, be sure to visit us at Central Coast Self Storage. We’re always happy to help.
